Everyone has been to a party that was a dud. If you are the one throwing the party this can be awful. But there is something to quickly remedy the situation – Party Games!
Party games rapidly provide visitors with ample opportunity to break the ice and they are also entertaining. I’ve never been to a party where these games were played and I didn’t have a good time. The following few games are my favorite ones to have fun with at a gathering.
Wink ‘Um
This game feels like a detective game. Everyone should sit in a circle. With a deck of cards, choose enough cards so that each player gets a card. Ensure that one of those cards is the ace of spades. The person with the ace of spades secretly winks at the other players. If you are winked at, you say "I’ve been murdered", then toss your card in the middle of the circle. Any murdered person is out of the game. The objective of the game is to guess who has the ace of spades. If you think you know, state that you wish to guess. If you are incorrect, you forfeit and die. If you are correct you win.
Who Am I
This is a fun game that helps with communication. Each person in the group writes down the name of a famous person on paper. Then every player is given one of the papers (except their own). Without seeing it, they must affix it to their chest with tape. The rest of the group can see who you are, but you need to guess. You can only ask yes or no questions to the other players, such as - am I dead? Taking turns you will start to get an impression of who you are. When you think you know, you may guess. Once you guess correctly, you can help the rest of the group until everyone has guessed. Another version is everyone sits in a circle. The paper with the name on it is attached to the chest. One player at a time may ask a yes or no question. The other players will answer. The first player to guess correctly wins.
Charades
This game is a favorite. Each member of the group should write down titles of TV shows, activities, movies, books etc. these are put into a bowl, and each participant draws a paper. Once a paper is drawn, the player’s goal is then to perform what is indicated on their paper, without speaking. The other group members must yell out guesses as the player acts it out.
Would You Rather Questions
Each person in the group thinks of two difficult choices. They then ask the question by saying would you rather… followed by the two alternatives. If there are multiple players, then each person should get a turn to pose a question. Or, if the group is too large to let everyone have a chance to answer then go around the circle individually so that only one player answers each would you rather question.
To give you an example, I have included a selection of would you rather questions to inspire you:
•
Would You Rather chocolate or cake?
•
Would You Rather eat a rotten apple with worms or eat blue cheese covered liver?
•Would you rather Skittles or Smarties?
•Would you rather discover the meaning of life or get to talk to God?
•Would you rather fall down a flight of stairs or fall off a cliff?
•Would you rather that you cannot go inside for 2 years or that you have to eat nothing but tomato soup for 4 years?
•Would you rather date Quagmire from Family Guy or date Moe from the Simpsons?
By using these games your visitors will have an amazing time at your party. They won’t want to leave!
